One day as the Lion walked proudly down a forest aisle, and the animals respectfully made way for him, an Ass brayed a scornful remark as he passed.

ある日、動物たちが恭しく道を譲るなかライオンが森の道を堂々と歩いていたら、通りざまにロバがライオンをあざけり啼いた。

and the animals respectfully made way for him, 　　そして動物たちが恭しく道を譲っていたら

an Ass brayed a scornful remark as he passed.　　あるロバが、ライオンの通りざまにあざけるようなことをいった(いなないた)。

(Bray = いななく)

The Lion felt a flash of anger.

ライオンは強い怒りを感じた。

But when he turned his head and saw who had spoken, he walked quietly on.

しかし振り返って誰が話したのかを見て、そのまま静かに歩き続けた。

He would not honor the fool with even so much as a stroke of his claws.

彼は爪の一撃(の栄誉)すらもバカなロバに与えなかった。

He would not honor the fool　彼はバカに栄誉を与えなかった

with even so much as a stroke of his claws.　彼の爪の一裂きでさえも。

Do not resent the remarks of a fool. Ignore them.

バカの言うことに憤るな。無視をせよ。
